  • The people of North Bengal are also a varied lot. The tea gardens brought in Tribals from Bengal and Bihar. The hill stations attracted people from neighboring Nepal, and the partition of 1947 brought in Hordes of Bengalis from Bangladesh.
  • The Hills, the jungles and the serene beauty of undulating tea gardens spread to the horizon.

At a distance of 57 km from Siliguri and 65 km from Jalpaiguri, Malbazar is one of the more important towns in Dooars. The town itself, although located very close to some tea gardens, does not have much to offer to the tourists except for the beautiful Mal Park which is maintained by the West Bengal forest department. However, due to its strategic location on the national highway, you can stay at Malbazar and visit the important tourist destinations of Eastern Dooars.

Gorumara National Park (16 kms), Chapramari Wild Life Sanctuary (10 kms), Jhalong - Bindu (an hours drive), Samsing - Suntalekhola (20 kms)  are the famous tourist spots in this area. Kumlai is a famous picnic spot near Malbazar. Gorubathan - Phaparkheti area can also be reached very easily from here.

Due to its proximity to Gorumara National Park, the Malbazar area has also become increasingly important as an extended area for resort development. A number of medium and small resorts have come up in the vicinity during the last few years.

By far the most popular tourist accommodation is the West Bengal Tourism maintained tourist lodge. The Malbazar Tourist Lodge at one time used to be exemplary in terms of its service and amenities. Today although the property is past its prime, but can still be considered as a very good choice. There are also a few private accommodations around which are mostly in basic category. The Malbazar Municipality maintained accommodation is named Udichi.
