Dhupguri in Dooars - Tourism Information

The town is well-connected yet blissfully away from the chaos of tourist crowds. It is surrounded by lush agricultural fields, tea gardens, and reserved forests that form part of the greater Gorumara ecosystem.

It also serves as a link between the more touristy towns like Malbazar, Lataguri, and the tea hamlets of Banarhat and Binnaguri. So if you are charting an offbeat Dooars circuit, Dhupguri deserves a soft spot on your map.

Dhupguri has its own railway station. Daily trains from NJP make Dhupguri a convenient stop. Major rail stations nearby are New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is about 72 km away, and Alipurduar Junction, about 86 km away.

Tourist Attractions in and Around Dhupguri

While Dhupguri might not yet be splashed across travel brochures, it has a surprising number of low-key attractions that reward curious travellers.

The Jaldhaka River flows gently past the town, and its banks are often frequented by locals for evening strolls or fishing. Come monsoon, the river swells, the air smells of wet earth, and the surrounding greenery turns cinematic. Dhupguri’s Hatighisa Tea Garden, just a short drive away, lets you walk amidst rows of green and get a feel of life in a tea estate.

The best way to explore Dhupguri is slowly. Start your day with a local breakfast of kochuri-tarkari and head out for nature walks along the outskirts. You can spend hours birdwatching along the river or cycling through the narrow paths between tea gardens and farmlands.

Places Around

Head 35 km to Gorumara National Park, where you can spot rhinos, elephants, and bison on jeep safaris. If you want a quieter forest experience, the Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, about 40 km away, offers dense sal forests and excellent birding opportunities.

If rivers interest you, Murti—a serene riverside retreat—is just about an hour away. You can picnic by the banks or stay in a riverside eco-resort for a night or two. Drive 45 km to Jhalong and Bindu near the Bhutan border, where the road hugs the Jaldhaka River and the mountains rise dramatically.

For those seeking hill station vibes, Kalimpong is around 85 km from Dhupguri. It makes for a great overnight trip with a very different Himalayan character.

Weather

Dhupguri experiences a typical Dooars climate—warm and humid summers, lush and rainy monsoons, and cool, pleasant winters. October to March is the best time to visit. This is when the weather is crisp, wildlife parks are open for safaris, and the tea gardens are in full flush.
